Speaker Name(s): Dr. Steven Pinker Description: On Friday, October 17, 2008, students from across the Faculty of Science will present their research projects at the fourth annual Undergraduate Research Conference (URC). A panel of distinguished McGill judges will adjudicate the projects, and certificates and prizes will be awarded. Following the keynote address by special guest Dr Steven Pinker (see details below), the day will culminate with a reception for students and alumni. The URC takes place during Homecoming 2008 in the lobby of McGill's historic Arts Building.

The Faculty of Science is honoured to welcome experimental psychologist Dr. Steven Pinker (BA '76, DSc Honoris Causa '99) as the 2008 URC keynote speaker.
"The stuff of thought: Language as a window into human nature."
Following the awarding of URC prizes, Dr Pinker will speak on the many ways that the study of language can illuminate human cognition, emotion, and social relationships.
Dr. Pinker is the Johnstone Family Professor in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University, and has been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time Magazine in 2004. Dr Pinker's talk is open to the public, although seats are limited.
